Come delight in this beautiful practice! In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is said that the vast majority of us have a "yin deficiency" which means that we are very fast-paced in this society and rarely take time to slow ourselves down and to find stillness - the more receptive experience of simply being. Taking a yin yoga class can allow you to attend to your "yang" activities (action, work, multitasking, athletic pursuits) in a more complete and present way. After practicing this style of yoga for several years, it gives me significantly more energy that is well-balanced so I can move back towards my life with greater ease and flow. Yin yoga is a quite slow-paced form of yoga that has its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine and feels like an acupuncture treatment in a yoga class form! The yin practice is designed as a series of longer holds (between 3-10 minutes) in non-weight bearing postures to target specific meridians, or energy pathways for chi to move. This gentle practice attends to the myofascial tissue, or the connective tissue that wraps around our whole entire body, between muscles, tendons and ligaments where the meridians are said to be housed. This tissue is what can get "bunched up" to create knots and discomfort within the body. Come prepared with a mat and your own blanket as well as an eye pillow if that's desired. Bring your open mind and willingness to sit still.
